Involuntary resettlement, which may involve physical and/or economic displacement of people, is one major impact of some development projects.
We assist project proponents in minimizing displacement through a critical review of the project design, footprint and execution plan. After the displacement impact is minimized, we organize and facilitate baseline and livelihood assessment studies, consultations, and working groups that lead to the development of a resettlement action plan (RAP).
Our work is guided by best practice, the most notable of which is Performance Standard 5 (land Acquisition and Involuntary Resettlement) of the International Finance Corporation (IFC). In some instances, we oversee the RAP implementation. We have been engaged to evaluate existing resettlement projects.
